Bucharest: The Enchanting Capital City:
Our Romanian adventure began in Bucharest, a vibrant metropolis blending old-world charm with modern grandeur. As we strolled through the tree-lined boulevards and admired the neoclassical architecture, we couldn’t help but be captivated by the city’s unique energy.
Exploring the Palace of the Parliament, the second-largest administrative building in the world, was a humbling experience that offered a glimpse into Romania’s recent history. The sheer scale and opulence of the building were awe-inspiring, reflecting the country’s complex past.
Bucharest also boasts impressive museums, such as the National Museum of Art and the Village Museum, where we learned about the country’s rich cultural heritage. The Village Museum, in particular, provided an immersive experience into traditional Romanian life, with its collection of authentic peasant homes and artifacts.
Brasov and the Fairytale-like Castles:
From Bucharest, we made our way to the charming city of Brașov, nestled in the Carpathian Mountains. This medieval gem stole our hearts with its picturesque squares, narrow cobblestone streets, and the impressive Black Church, a Gothic masterpiece that stands as a testament to the city’s rich history.
From Brașov, we embarked on a journey to two iconic castles that are the stuff of legends: Peleș Castle and Bran Castle.
Bran Castle, famously associated with the tale of Count Dracula, stood majestically atop a hill, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding Transylvanian landscape. While the Dracula connection is more myth than fact, the castle’s imposing presence and storied past made for an unforgettable visit.
Peleș Castle, nestled in the heart of the mountains, showcased exquisite architecture and lavish interiors fit for royalty. The intricate woodwork, stained glass windows, and ornate furnishings transported us to a bygone era of opulence.
Tranquility and Adventure in Poiana Brasov:
Just a short drive from Brașov lies Poiana Brașov, a captivating mountain resort in the Carpathians. Surrounded by lush forests and snow-capped peaks, this picturesque haven is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts.
My girlfriend and I indulged in exhilarating activities such as hiking and zip-lining, immersing ourselves in the pristine beauty of the Carpathian Mountains. The well-marked trails led us through serene landscapes, offering panoramic views that took our breath away.

Exploring its magnificent halls, towers, and courtyards, we couldn’t help but imagine the tales of knights and nobles that once echoed within its walls. The castle’s drawbridge, high battlements, and richly decorated rooms transported us back to the Middle Ages.
Corvin Castle is a testament to Romania’s rich medieval history and an absolute must-visit for any history enthusiast.
Lake Bicaz: Nature’s Serenity:
Our Romanian odyssey took us to the breathtaking wonder of Lake Bicaz. Nestled amidst the majestic Carpathian Mountains, Lake Bicaz showcases Romania’s natural beauty at its finest.
This tranquil place allowed us to immerse ourselves in crystal-clear waters and take in breathtaking views of towering cliffs and dense forests. We indulged in a boat ride on the lake, hiked along the lakeside trails, and relaxed on the shore of this pristine oasis.

No visit to Romania would be complete without exploring Sighișoara, one of Europe’s best-preserved medieval towns. As we wandered through its narrow, winding streets and climbed the iconic Clock Tower, we felt transported to a bygone era.
Sighișoara’s colorful houses, fortified walls, and the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler (the inspiration for Dracula) added layers of intrigue to our visit. The town’s vibrant atmosphere, coupled with its rich history, made it a highlight of our journey.
Oradea: A Blend of Architectural Marvels:

One of the highlights was the Black Eagle Palace (Palatul Vulturul Negru), an architectural masterpiece featuring a stunning stained-glass roof and intricate ironwork. The city’s Baroque Palace, with its grand façade and historical significance, offered a glimpse into Oradea’s rich past.
We also visited the Moon Church (Biserica cu Lună), unique for its lunar mechanism that displays the phases of the moon. Oradea’s charm lies in its ability to seamlessly blend history with modernity, making it a must-visit destination for architecture enthusiasts.
Driving the Transfagarasan and Balea Lac:
One of the most exhilarating parts of our trip was driving along the Transfăgărășan Highway, often dubbed the “best road in the world.” This winding mountain road offered breathtaking views of the Făgăraș Mountains, with each turn revealing a new, stunning landscape.
As we ascended, we encountered the serene Bâlea Lake, a glacial lake nestled amidst the peaks. The crisp mountain air and the tranquil waters provided a perfect spot to relax and take in the natural beauty.

Our Romanian adventure concluded with a serene boat tour along the Danube River, Europe’s second-longest river. As we glided along the calm waters, we were surrounded by lush landscapes and diverse wildlife, offering a peaceful end to our journey.
